Ive built a pc for gf son. I setup using hdmi. But I need the hdmi for xbox. The monitor has vga the gpu has a hdmi and 2x dvi. Not dvid there are no pins above and below the spade shape connector, what adaptor do i need to convert to vga, as most in rainforest seem to be dvid

Sorry for bad grammar typing on phone

Buy a £2 HDMI auto switch, trying to do what you are asking for isn't happening without much more expense and agro and it still won't be perfect.

its ok I have somethings back to front I need an Active DVI-D to vga which are about a fiver, the cheaper ones are DVI-I, I may still get the switcher anyway which could be used for PS4 as well

That sounds right, you need an active adapter because graphics cards don't have DVI-I anymore which could carry the analog signal, they're all DVI-D. Would need to be very old graphics card (like.. 5+ years) to get away with a passive adapter. Intel IGP on the motherboard can be a way around it if you don't intend to play games on the VGA monitor.
