Hi All,

Just built a new system (for the first time) and i seem to have some issues with dvd/media files playback........

My new system is as follows

Asus PK5C mobo
Gigabyte 8800GT 512 (the 1 with the Zalman cooling)
E6400 overclocked to 3 ghz
Geil Black Dragon PC2-6400 800Mhz ram (2gb)
Corsair HX520 520 Watt PSU
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Socket 775 CPU Cooler
All in a Antec 900 case running Vista 32bit.

Most things seem to be running sweet, COD 4 is great but yet to load on Crysis.

Anyway when playing dvd files on my Pioneer 42" plasma connected via a DVI to HDMI cable the picture is jerky and breaks up a bit. I tend to use Media player Classic to watch these thing as you can set to change the resolution when it starts and my normal monitor is 1440 by 900 and i set it to change to another resolution for my TV. This all work great on my old set up with a ATI 1600 gfx card apart for HD/Blue ray films that were a bit jerky in the same way normal dvd's are on my new system. This is one of the reasons for a new build and though a better gfx card would solve this issue??

So is this a drivers issue or some other setting or is it the media player issue???

Also which drivers should i be using. The ones from gigabyte or the ones from Nvidia??

Thanks in advance for any suggestions/help

Mark

I use XP and do not use HDMI so this is just a bump for someone to help you out. Great job in building your first rig :D and welcome to OCUK.

Good luck with getting help with this.

What refresh rate are you using? If the problem is worse with panning shots the it probably is caused by 25/50fps video being played back on a screen set to 60hz refresh rate.

Not sure what the rate is!! will have a play but what do you suggest.

The problem is very obvious when the 'demo' at the begining of the film is played (the one with the cogs turning)

Have you got your pc and tv hooked up at the same time or are you swapping the cable over to view on your tv? I have my monitor and TV hooked up to the two dvi ports on my GTX and everything works absolutely fine.

Try installing this and see if it helps...

Meant to be the best codec pack and sorted out the few probs i had when i first hooked everything up.

Thanks will give that link a try, and yes i have both linked up at the same time. My monitor in port 1 and the Plamsa into port 2 and the gfx card.

you shouldn't need to set anything to adjust your tv display then as you can set the individual res of each screen. just set them up as individual displays in the nvidia control panel. Then when you start a video just set your chosen player to full screen. This is what i do and hove no probs at all. My card is connected to my Samsung 32" via dvi-hdmi adaptor and i experience no probs at all.

As far as drivers are concerned, i'm using 169.38's as they're the most stable for me. 17x.xx's all cause probs in STALKER for me. But i've just watched downloaded Atlantis and Lost in HD with no probs.
