i recently got a new vista laptop to use with my xp pc.
I was on a direct cable modem with virgin for my net and now i use my old router to set up a network so that i can use both system on the net at the same time
i have come upon a snag with the laptop
with everything normal and plugged in as standard.. and vista at service pack 1
I can;t get on the net.
in the network and sharing center there is a red cross between the network and internet icons
i have access to local only and connection of local area connection
when i click on the red cross i get
there may be a problem with your domain namer server (dns) configuration

i tried to fix it by setting the dns manually on tcp/ipv4
i tried disabling tcp/ipv6
i tried pinging my router which works but pinging anything else wouldn;t
my local area connection status shows that data is both transmitted and received

please help

heres the ipconfig

what happens if you manually give your laptop an ip address, subnet mask, default gateway and dns servers - ensure these are correct:

ip address - free address within the same subnet of current LAN
subnet mask - 255.255.255.0 normally (for /24)
default gateway - address of router
dns servers - address of router

do an ipconfig /all and copy output here, also what is the address of the router?
