been having serious problems with someones PC that has baffled me. ok the problem is as follows.
was installing software on a friends pc, NERO and cpuz to see what kind of ram and mobo they were using. everything was fine on that nite.
next day he calls me over and tells me that his usb HD is not working.
the usb hd kept on crashing the system, when plugged in (windows xp).
took the drive over to my computers and it did the same thing. anyhow we decide to open it up and see that it is a normal 80g IDE drive. plug the drive into his computer and reboot. then all of the sudden the pc does not boot. take the hd out and now the motherboard cannot seem to recognize the original boot drives or even the cd drives.
his original boot drive works, as i have plugged it into my own computer so there is no problem there. now the only problem is the motherboard does not seem to detect any of his hd or any hd for that fact.
i have reseted the bios and tried various combination of bios setting but nothing works.
is it possible that the usb hd broke the IDE controler on the moboard.
its an ECS K7S5A mother board,
amd duron 1200mhz
256mb of ram.
any suggestion as to what might be wrong? anything i can do? i am totally baffled by this problem.
