My laptop desperately needs more memory, fed up of it hitting high percentage usages, could you point me in the right direction of which type of memry im looking at in the OC store to upgrade it? imm guessing DDR3, but will any of thhem do? and is it single channel, toshiba decription from model number is as below, thanks

System memory standard : 2,048 (1x) MB
maximum expandability : 8,192 MB
technology : DDR3 RAM (1,066 MHz)

I'm not sure mate, it looks to me from the spec that its single channel ram? but i dont knkw if that means it only uses single channel??any reason why you say 1333mhz atm when the info I have says 1066mhz? Or are they same thing? I'd like to stick 8gb in there of the quickest ram it would take, so would like to find out!

Presuming the memory has not been changed since you got the laptop..... Do you have a model number and make of said laptop? (Probably etched somewhere in front of you)

single channel just means one stick, should be able to run dual channel two sticks

you need to find out what speeds it can support but it should support upto 8gb

i've tried to find the maximum speeds it will take, no joy :(
the laptop is a Toshiba SATELLITE PRO C660-12F
i havent touched anything so its all factory standard atm

I just checked the processor on your laptop. The max the CPU can support is 1066 DDR3, see below

http://ark.intel.com/products/49020/Intel-Core-i3-370M-Processor-3M-cache-2_40-GHz

Presuming the laptop is as standard you have 1 x 2GB 1066 DDR3. I would remove the single 2GB of memory and replace with 2 x 4GB.

The following is 1333 speed, but it will be backwards compatible with 1066.

thanks for the info, bit disappointed i couldnt go quicker, the cpu barely gets affected by usage at all, i'll go for the 8gb of 1333 then, thanks again

You will get a bandwidth increase as the 2 modules will be running in dual channel mode, you are only running single channel mode currently.

Also when installing memory, don't touch any of the gold contacts with your hands. Hold the memory at the sides only where is no electronics.
