Hi all,

I have just upgraded my motherboard and had trouble connecting to the net through my wireless network afterwards.

My router is an orange livebox and was originally on a WPA/WEP setting. On this setting, the network is connected but is stuck on the assign IP address stage.

After a lot of playing (buying 2 different wireless adaptors), I eventually found that the only way I can connect to the net is if I have changed the wireless setting from WPA/WEP to WEP only.

However, this did not solve the problem completely. I can connect to the internet but is still stuck on the assign IP address. The card also cut out after 10 mins.

I then tried disabling the security and after that, it works perfectly.

Although I set the router to only accept the mac address of my pc and my laptop, it does not feel very secure and therefore want this sorted out quickly.

Please help.

Thanks in advance.

Try changing the default password as i have seen that make a difference for some unknown reason.

A mate had a sky netgear router that his mac was fine with but 2 xp machines just kept saying aquiring network addy till i changed pw to something a bit longer. No logic or reason but worth a shot :)

I'd be tempted to reset the router to facory defaults, delete all existing connections on the PC and set it up from scratch again using whatever wizard the isp supplied

using wireless adapters on the PC you usually get a choice of using the windows zero configuration utility or a makers utility, make sure you have the latest utility service pack and your sure which your using.

Check if antivirus or firewall on the PC are getting in thte way.

if you have an internet connection then you must have an ip addressso its probaly something blocking the clean temination of the program
