Good morning,

So as previously mentioned in other threads I'm looking for a new monitor. I've been searching many sites in my quest and seen some lovely monitors but here is were I'm stuck. I game, not everyday but if I've got a day off I'd more then likely just get stuck into to 5+ hours of gaming.
Other then gaming it would be viewing videos and websites. I looked into the whole 144hz gaming etc and decided I just wouldn't use it enough for what I'd pay for one. Pushing my budget I'd say I have around £300 to spend.

So I thought ok let's look at 1440p monitors, I came across a lovely Asus monitor (http://www.************/products/238-asus-vx24ah-ips-frameless-2560-x-1440-monitor-2x-hdmi-mhl-vga-5ms-100m1-300cdm-2-speakers. Now my problem is after looking at frame rate tests of game's running on 1440p with a GTX 970 I'd be getting maybe 40-50 fps.
Naturally I want to keep the frame rate 60 or above and I'm looking at a 24 inch monitor , so my questions are. .

Should I go for a 1080p monitor and what are some of the best to consider?

If I was to go with 1440p, could I not turn it down to 1080p in games and keep the frame rate up?

Cheers guys,

In reality I can't see an issue with FPS at 1440p with your GPU.

I have the 770 and I can run all my games on Ultra settings (with the exception of Crysis 3) at 2560x1440 with no problems at all.

TBF I never measured the FPS but I noticed no major dropouts.

Gaming at 1440p is very nice over 1080p, the increase in detail is excellent.
