Help with zelda

Argh im stuck. Please help.

I've just got the boomerang and am at a bit where i have to shoot four pillars with the boomerang in the correct order so i can open a gate. I am doing it from close left to close right then far left to far right( as shown on the ground). The gate still won't open, am i missing something?

Are you using the lock on (Z) and doing them all in one move?
