So today I turned my PC on and it won't recognise my CDR-W or DVD-ROM drives. They show up correctly in device manager, but with the yellow exclamation marks on them. I've tried uninstalling them and letting it find them again, tried re-installing chipset drivers, different chipset drivers - and the BIOS also shows them to be present. Why won't Windows recognise them all of a sudden

EDIT: WinXP pro, Lite-On DVD-ROM and Samsung CDR-W. nForce Ultra AM2 mobo. No SATA.

If you have uninstall/re-installed both Optical devices under DVD/CD-Rom Drives and als the IDE channel that they are installed on, and that does not cure it, sometimes this This Registry fix can sort it. :)

limewire, itunes, certain disc writing software

its a weird problem that is still in Vista too!

only come across it twice
