Really need some urgent help here please if you can spare the time.

My partner has set up a Console Gaming club for a bunch of kids at the Library she works in.
She has got funding and bought an XBox 360 with around 6 games. (they begged and begged for a 360)
She has also scrounged a TV for them too. This TV is quite old and has 2 Scart Sockets on it.

When she plugs the kit in, all but 2 of the games are displayed only in Black and White. This it not good !

I am guessing the games are running at 60 hz, even though they are PAL. Is this right ?

Is there anything we can do, or get without much expense that will make this work, or are we completely stuffed unless we buy an expensive TV ?

I have around a week before this club starts. Help !

You could run it through a PC monitor, that'd solve the 60Hz thing.

Thanks for the quick response.

Its the Premium pack that they bought, does that come with a VGA Cable ?

(sorry for asking dumb questions, but I am at work, not with the kit)

Not normally no.

First thing i'd suggest is looking at the video settings and playing around with those before you shell out any more money .

Possibly but if the TV is old/cheap enough not to support PAL-60 (which is possibly what the problem is ) what makes you think it supports RGB . ;)

Surely the first thing to try is to sort it out without spending any more money

EDIT -

try swapping which scart socket you have it hooked up to as well as sometimes only one socket will support different video signals and look in the on screen menus on the TV as you may have to set the input type manually in there for iit to work.

I have had a TV that did support RGB and didn't support PAL 60. I daresay it's best to try other options first though.

Small update

The TV has 2 SCART sockets, and nothing else.

The TV menu does show an option for SCART 1, SCART 2, RGB, DECODER, TUNER as inputs.

Is there a chance I could buy a SCART block with RGB sockets on it and use the RGB side of the X360 Cable. (Its the one that has R G B Y and 2 Audio - and the HDTV / TV switch)

Also - how would I connect the sound up if this is the case ? there are no other inputs except the other SCART socket !

If the TV supports RGB then you'll need to purchase the RGB scart cable for the 360. It's called the Xbox 360 Advanced AV Cable. First of all though, before spending any money, you'll need to change the settings to 50Hz to make sure the picture is colour. If it's still black & white at 50Hz then something else may be the problem.

Get a composite to scart box (99p from wilko)

You use the red/white for sound and yellow for picture ignore the rest as they are for HDTV

How are you currently connecting it if its only got 2 scart and you havent a scart>comp box??

could be the tv scart is set to svideo try the menus with the remote btw the 360 defaults to pal 50hz you need to go into display options in the system tab in the dashboard to change it to 60hz

Won't need that as the cable supplied with a Premium 360 is both Composite connectors (Red, White, Yellow) with Scart block addon and Component cable all in one. You simply choose which to use and set the cable to HD-TV if using Component.

You don't get the RGB cable with any 360. This is an optional extra and as mentioned above is known as the Advanced Scart cable.

As for the TV, I'm guesing that it's 50Hz only would need the 360 set to 50Hz output. Unfortunately you will find that some games are 60Hz only (should be marked on the back of the boxes).

Perhaps you could try and find a more recent TV (doesn't have to be brand new) that is 50/60Hz compatible. That way you will be safe for any game and wouldn't need worry about checking the games being 50Hz or 60Hz.
