I've been to have a look at a 3dr Fiesta 1.25 MK4 Zetec today (it's in the paper). Its in pretty good nick, drives nice, and has A/C. It's done 70,000 miles and has FSH, but rust has kicked in. There was rust in the door sill where the door hinges are.

Is this ok?

Insurance is still a joke btw, lowest so far £1550 TPFT PP which is acceptable. Would like it to be FC but i'm not paying £2000.

how much is it up for?

and why is insurance so insane for you? have you shopped around?

If theres rust appearing, i wouldnt be too keen. Theres plenty more MK4 fiesta's out there to chose from :)

I think you are yes. That looks like minor surface rust or just dirt.

My mate said offer him £1300 as it has no cd player.

Looking around £1300-£1500 to spend really. I think the front of these looks better than the Mk5.

Why is insurance quite high on these compared to saxo's and 106's?

Am I over reacting? My cousins 1998 KA has rust on the sills. Is it standard for a 7 year old ford to have rust?

yes... its common on fiestas... if its not too bad go4it! SUPERB cars... just kill the rust off asap and treat it...

im guessing this is your first car?

oh and btw try barclays car insurance... got me mk4 1.25 fez insured for 980 or sumting TPFT... (17, 0ncb) if you wanted fully comp try virgin... they wanted 1300 or sumtin...

however fully comp on a car like this aint really worth it...

hope this helps :p

Lowest quote I have got so far is 1500 TPFT on pass plus. That was with Quinn btw.

yeh i got bout the same wit quinn... oh and one more thing, i didnt have pass plus...

again, try virgin and barclays... by far the cheapest for that car

for a first car thats not bad and i wouldnt worry about the rust either but try to get the seller to give it for as less as possible. you want the best deal. the best way to do this is make a note to point out the bad points that you see i.e. no cd player, rust, dents etc.

i personally found elephant.co.uk were cheap for young drivers (this was a few years ago though). no harm in checking... also, dont forgot to give norwich union a call and ask them to "quote you happy". if theyre not the cheapest they will certainly beat anyone else as thats their policy. good luck!

metal bristled brush/sandpaper and hammerite :)

yup get all rust off so your down to some fresh metal, then treat it with KURUST... great stuff... thisll make sure it wont appear again. make sure its ALL covered. then you can either apply some hamerite like so or touch it up with the colour of your car. ;)

edit: hows the quotes like now? you should be able to get lower than 1500 easy on TPFT

depends on where the rust is and how much damage its caused. if its eaten though metal it will need cutting out then a piece either replaced or filled with filler before being primed and painted. normally people catch it in the but and its only surface damage in which case a wire brush to get rid of the rust and flaking paint then treat and paint accordingly. sorted!

Good God man that sounds expensive!
