Ok well I am currently running 4 standard Console clients on my Q6600, I have tried the Windows SMP client but it just seems to sit their for an age doing nothing or at different clock speeds throws up an error about system instability..

My question is, is there any other sort of client I can try that will give better PPD than my current 4 console client setup?

And a second question! is there anyway to determine the type of unit that you get? For instance I can pump out a 3906 like there is no tomorrow FahMon shows the two clients I currently have doing them at around 2800 PPD each but then you get some sucky 2613 unit or something that takes an age for very little PPD

ok will have a look :)

how much of a performance increase will that get me?

EDIT: Had a read that doesnt look to complicated :) will have to give it a try tomorrow

well i got it all installed and setup but when I restart the virtual machine after the OS install it doesnt seem to want to boot into the OS? Just tries to boot over the LAN card.. I have gone into the "BIOS" and set the hdd to the first boot devise but no luck.. its late maybe I am being stupid! will try again in the morning

arghh! *pulls hair out* damm smp clients....

ok get instability errors on some of the units that the linux smp clients are running is stupid because I have installed 1 vmware linux install running two clients on a seriously overclocked E6850 that isnt even 8 hours primestable on its current setup... and it is blasting through the two units no problems... yet I install 2 vmware linux installs running two clients each on any of my Q6600 even at stock and overvolted for stock and I get instability errors all over the place! I really cant see that anything is any different followed the guide exactly the same on all of the vmware installs and linux smp client setups.. everything in the E6850 machine is exactly the same bar the chip to one of my Q6600 setups, RAM / Motherboard / Make of Hard-Disk!

Any Ideas?

I mean the SMP client gives an error and returns the unit, says in the blurb that if you get a lot of them could be system instability but its about 75% of them it will do 1 or 2 steps and then return the unit saying its come to an early end

RAM passes a 4 hour blend test @ the levels I am currently running it

Have however appeared to got the Win SMP client working by installing it onto the root and not the default directory... go figure!

well 2 SMP clients run cooler than the 4 "normal" console clients were so might up the clock a bit just waiting for it to return the first unit atm then will have some times :)

hmm this morning I had a check on the SMP clients progress and one client in the night had Ended Early and returned the following error (similar to the one I was getting on the Linux Client i think?!?):

CoreStatus = 7B (123)

The second client was still going strong at around 55% and the first client had restarted and was up to around 30% (had finised at 16% on the first unit)...

The Error suggests that it failed either a) because the unit was actually at an end and could not process anymore or b) System Instability

Now given that I have gotten these errors before I think its more than likely B! but does anyone else get these errors? and if so how have you fixed them?

I have had a read around and it could be memory instabilities (I find this hard to believe) but will maybe try lossening my RAM timmings when I get home.. dont really want to restart the PC tho.. SMP thingy has a habbit of lossing what its done when I do that!

well I have given up on SMP clients... given that one of my Quads has been recieving 3906 and 3907 all day from the new beta client thing and is running atm at around 10481.67 PPD :)

yup been having a look, FahMon calculates PPD on them being 50 Frame Units are infact 100 Frame Units so that 10K is infact 5K PPD which is still more than I get using 2 WIN SMP

I think it is because for whatever reason my 2nd WIN SMP client is never stable, very rarely did it go through a whole WU even when my machine was a stock with everything running a snail pace.. I may look at running 1 WIN SMP and 2 console clients to see what output I can get..

I run @ 3.825 24/7, this is over 24 hours prime95 small FFTs stable and I have in the past coupld of days run a blend test for over 8 hours with no issue... also tried setting everything to stock and get the same issue when running 2 WIN SMP Clients and had the same issue when I tried the linux clients thro VMWare.. So am at a bit of a lose end really as to the cause.. The error is always the same cant remember off the top of my head which one.. but some research suggests could be a memory issue.. but seeing as I have run at stock with my memory timmings set really lose and still get the problem I cant see it being the memory (memory also passed a memtest even at its overclocked settings)...

Only thing I can think of trying now is a fresh install of XP and seeing if that makes a difference used a load of different clients etc.. now over the past two weeks maybe has messed something up somewhere!
