i have reason to believe my cpu is not working correctly but im not entirely sure. my pc boots but extremely slowly. the loading bar on the windows boot screen goes for ages a good 40 seconds before it boots into windows. some aspects of my computer are very fast, which is odd, but any install process or process where i think cpu is needed it is painstakinly slow. any 1 had anything like this before. ??

generally, CPUs either work or they don't.

booting and installing are more about the HDD than the cpu.

i really dont think its the install, i think i overloaded the cpu a cuple of weeks ago while trying to run my new hd 4850 with a 380w cpu, so now i have a new 600w psu but the same problems occur, i know i now have enough power to run my gfx card but i think the damage i did to the cpu may be already done.

Run some stress test programmes, ie Super PI, and 3d win mark these should show if your cpu is coursing the problems.

Run HD Tach or HD Tune to check your hard disc performance.

check that your hdd's are running in UDMA5/6 as windows has a "feature" where it turns it down after something like 6 mis reads, and nevr resets the counter. It's allways nice to find out your hdd is running at 3mb/s :(

Unplug any un needed usb devices, mine pauses for about 10 seconds on bootup while it picks up the usb dvd writer, webcam and card reader. With thm turned off it boots quicker
