I have just put together a PC for my son, when I tried to boot up I'm getting nothing!
All the fans come on, but there are no beeps and the screen is blank.
Really don't know what to do :(

The PC is a mixture of old and new components-

P5N-E Sli Asus mobo (my old one)
E5300 LGA 775 CPU (new)
2gb pc6400 Ballistix RAM ( my old, never took it out of mobo)
HD 4870 1gb (new)
530w supply

Please help, thanks.

Assuming there 2 x 1gig sticks you could try booting with just the 1 stick in there.
When i first built my rig it did nothing with two sticks in

Ok, will try that.
Just looked on Asus website and it does NOT show that the mobo is compatible with the CPU.
If that was the case, would it show the same symptoms, ie. not boot?

Not to sure about that myself, but if it's 'not compatible' id be willing to wager you wont be able to get it working :S. Is it not supported under a new Bios Update?

I had a P5N32E-Sli nforce 680i chipset, same problem but with a Q9550 (45nm Processor), i put a Q6600(90nm Processor) flashed to latest bios and it ran ok , just said unidentified processor, worth a try if you can get your hands on a 90nm processor to flash bios.... ;)

I think you are right, the cpu is a 45nm processor. I did update the bios a while ago but not sure if it covered these new chips, and there is no way of finding out now!
So, there is no other way of updating the bios without actually having to swap the cpu?
If not ,my mate has an old compatible cpu that I could try.

Thanks for the info.

Just an update, not sure if anyone is interested but it was the BIOS that needed updating.
I tried an older CPU and it booted so then it was just a matter of applying the latest BIOS, swapping the processor and it now works perfectly!
Thanks for your help and special thanks to Jaffa for the chip :D
