Hey guys. Hope somebody can help me here. Upgraded my headset, my old headset used two 3.5mm jacks and my on board sound where as my new headset uses USB, it's own sound card and software(Logitech G930)

Now I used to have a 3.5mm splitter plugged I to my pc so that I could have my hi-fi plugged in as well as my headphones, hit AUX on my hi-fi and I could have my pc sound comming through my hi-fi speakers.

I was hoping I could just plug my hi-fi directly into my inboard 3.5mm female jack and still hear sound but it don't work. I'm guessing it's not using the on board sound drives but the Logitech software from the USB port, two different sound devices can't be used at the same time.

My questions is basically this. Is there any way to have my Logitech G930 USB headset plugged in and working but also be able to have the sound play thorough my fi-fi when I press AUX on my hi-fi?

Cheers.

Yes you can, but you need to use other software to make it work.

Virtual Audio Cable is such software, which is the only one I've need. It works well in outputting the same audio to many different devices. Downside is, the free trail version you get this annoying voice every now and then which says 'trial'. Got to buy it to get rid of that.

I've just noticed VB Audio, which appears to be similar. Not sure if that does the same thing and whether there are any constraints with the free version.

Since Vista I think, Microsoft completely changed the way the audio works, so only one device can be used by Windows at any one time.

You can use two different devices at the same time, but Windows can only use one as default. Any others can be used by different applications though, such as Realtek being used in a music player app, while default is USB.

So with this software I could create a "virtual cable" between my Logitech USB sound drivers and my on board realtek drives and have the sound from the USB headset play through the 3.5mm jack of the on board realtek sound card?

That's the idea. I've only tried VAC and it works great, but unless you buy it, you get that annoying 'trial' message every so often.

I assume VB Audio Virtual Cable does pretty much the same thing, but I've not tried it.

Well i really appreciate your help, ive tried both programs you mentioned and i couldn't for the life of me get either to work, well i did in a way, i managed to get sound through both the headset and hi-fi at the same time but it totally disabled my Logitech G930 software so that it didn't even register i had the headset connected in the Logitech gaming software .... Totally baffles.

I took the easy route out and told the wife to type "sound" into the Win 10 search bar in the bottom right, i re-named the realtek software to Hi-fi and my G930 software to "Headset". I taught her how to set either one as the primary device.

Shame it didn't work out. I didn't really consider that it might affect a headset which uses it's own software for 7.1 effect.

I only use stereo, which in comparison is a lot simpler.
