Hi Guys,

Replacing my number plates which i got off no problem, however I also want to remove the front number plate holder.

But I can't get the number plate holder (plinth) off at all tried various allen keys etc etc, is it some sort of security key I need? Any idea where I could get one?

Pictures below, if it helps the car is a 2009 Mazda 6.

Hmm

Must be a coincidence that there is a chap called tom on facebook doing the exact same thing with very similar photo's :P

I would start with a 6mill and go up from there.

If you have a dremel, you could try making a slit across the face and then using a flat head screwdriver.

I reckon it's a rivet, it'll need drilling out.

At a guess something like an 8mm drill would be big enough - you don't need to drill right through the rivet, you're aiming to separate the head of the rivet from the section going through the bumper. Wider drill bit will do the same job, you need to go in gently with the drill just enough to separate the rivet head. Then the body of the rivet will either fall out or you can tap it through the bumper. See below, this does say you use drill just smaller than the rivet diameter but this bit hard to know when the rivet is already fitted.
