Help1 which board to keep.

Need some help to decide what to do. My system is mainly for gaming and burning the odd cd and generally msn etc etc

I have a Q6600go on a Maximus formula MB. I also have a GA-EP45 extreme which i bought last week. But i was'nt that impressed with it so went back to my Asus.

The thing is i have been thinking of getting a newer cpu maybe the Q9550. The question is if i got the newer cpu would it perform better on the Asus or the Extreme M/B. I have read that the Extreme M/B is optimised for the newer chips so maybe when i ran the Q6600 on it i was not seeing it at its best.

so the question is

Do i keep the Asus or the Extreme....and should i keep the 6600 or get the 9550...and which cpu should i use with either board to get the best performance.

My full rig is Radeon 4850
2x 640 WD Blacks in raid 0
4 gig of gskill pc8000
Kandalf lcs case.

I would use the Gigabyte with a Q9550 if you're intending to overclock it.

Is that because it is newer technology and is more optimised...i am asking because if i decide to crossfire later...i will only get 8x8 on the cards with the Extreme, as opposed to 16x16 on the asus....or would the difference in performance between the 2 be none noticable from a graphics point of view.

Difference won't really be noticeable.

But the P45 chipset is far better at overclocking the 45nm quads than the X38 chipset (tho X38 should still take a Q9550 to ~3.9ghz).
