A guy at work has asked me for advice on two road bikes.

I explained that you guys tell me everything I need to know and that I'd ask you haha.

Hes looking at the B'Twin 300 or 500, £30 difference between the two, £250-280. He wants to know if it's worth the extra £30 or if there's anything better for his money at that budget. I think £280 is the max.

Cheers,

James.

I believe the 500 is £350, and the 500SE is £330. Differences between them are 300 > 500SE is carbon fork, and 500SE > 500 is shimano gearing. For £250 the 300 is a great deal, i'd say it's probably not worth spending the extra £70 if you're on a limited budget but from the looks of it they only really have sizes 43 and 60 left, pretty extreme ends of the scale. It's very important that you don't buy a bike the wrong size just because it's cheaper, fit is everything.

Outside of Decathlon there are a few options in the £300-400 range, but not so much sub £300. All i could really find is this which isn't anything to write home about:

They'll definitely get the most for their money if they're prepared to look at the used market.

Thank you for this, I'll pass on your advice!
