helppp cut a long story short the screen on my alienware m11x does not come on, it basically thinks that the lid is shut when it aint, how does a laptop know when the lid is shut down and what can i do help needed asap as i need this laptop urgently

you can either press the button that the lid presses and see if that works, or connect another screen and see if that works and then you can change the settings
