evening,

I'm currently looking around for a new car, as i've decided to sell my 205 XS.

Now, i'm looking for something equally as fun, chuckable, but kind of refined as well.

- £1500 budget
- Fun
- Bang for buck - as much as possible for my budget

I could push to £2k but i'd rather not unless it was for the right car.

I've been looking at Xsara VTR's (1.8 16v iirc.)

Cheers!

I really want a 205 GTi - but I don't really want to get a knackered one, and would rather wait a couple of years until i can afford to run/insure a decent one (ie Mi16) and not ruin my preconceptions.

I know that you'll know what I mean.

Good luck getting one that isn't a complete dog for this money. Might be able to squeeze a 220 hatch turbo though. Let's be serious though, it's a group 17 car, insurance company is gonna laugh in your face.

I would have thought the obvious choice was a 205 GTi? 1.6 should be less on insurance than the 1.9 and the box is nicer to play with too.
Or, if you really wanna curb your budget, the 309 SRi has the same engine/box but will probably half the cost price and insurance due to desirability. Some people say the 309's handle better too.

309 SRi? i thought it was the GTi that was the same?

205 GTI.

Got mine a couple of weeks ago - loving every minute of it. I honestly can't just "go to work" or "go to the shops", I have to set off a half hour early and blast up the local twisties. It's so much fun to drive.

I love 205's, I've got one, albeit an XS. I just don't want my preconceptions of them to be tarnished if i buy a lemon. and lets face it, i have a habit of that:p
