so i finally decided to upgrade...again

last time i checked i was aimed at the HIS 4870,but as soon as i look i see the 4890 being pushed.

i had forgotten about the misery of upgrading,as the rig i built so many years ago has never hit any problems with any games....but now after reading a thread here i yet again am as confused as i used to be.

i suspect overclocker.co.uk is still counting the cash i spent last time :D [then again as it was half what i was expecting,so no complaints here]

BUT,i am torn twix upgrade or waiting to hit the stutters of future games, before upgrading.
I aint rich by any standards, and careful choices on advice from here mainly has saved me a fortune and given me gaming standards most never see.

so,bowing low and begging for the same advice again,

this is the last upgrade...

Phenom II X3 720
4870 or 4890 or 260GTX
Maybe a faster HD.

That should keep you going for a while without breaking the bank.

nice suggestions there & +1 for the 4890 especially at the prices they are just now. Also I see a 260 for <£130 which is bloody good too.

Love the chief eunuch line pmsl.

excellent..many thanks.

@ Dauthi,it seems i have the latest bios for mobo, saying that, they havent released any new ones in a long time for this mobo.

now have to check if my mobo takes the Phenom II X3 720.

I checked. It does ;)

if i wasnt a 6"2 hairy arsed welshman i would give you a big kiss.

just have to be a full on snog then ;)

I can quite heartily recommend the Amd Phenom II X4 940
I have not long upgraded from a 4400+ 939 socket to this
i am now able to run a lot more than i used to
@ present ive got mines running the windows smp client for F@H as well as 3 Gpu clients my email system and internet and am able to switch between them without any problems.

Cpu is currently running @ 100% and has yet to break 58c
at present ive not OC this as i require a more stable PSU however a quick test when i got it allowed me to get it too 3.8Ghz
but due to power issues when i added my second and third video card into the system meant i had to remove the OC as well as my third graphics card.

i do use WC in the form of a Zalman Reserator 1 and a D-Tek fusion V1 Cpu block which is on par with most
Top quality Air cooling soloutions just it's silent to the piont the loudest part of my system is my 9800 GX2 running it's fan @ 100%

So if you have the cash and can sneak it passsed She who must be obeyed
then i would highly recommend going for the 940BE.
I estimate it will probably be 2-3 years before i upgrade my cpu again as like you im not well off in the funds dept and also have to sneak things past She who must be obeyed.

anything is silent in comparison to the gx2 stock fan @100%! Are you running it like this 24/7? I take it your pc isn't in your bedroom then?

Dedication!

yes its a 24/7 machine and yes it is not in my bedroom

i have got a new pump and a 120mm rad to add to the WC loop
noise wise it will not get any louder but temp wise it should drop
