Friends sister borrowed her laptop, she got it back and it wouldnt connect to the internet, thats all i was told.

Ive got it here now, it connects to my network, msn logs on but IE and FireFox will not connect, wirelessly or wired.

Ive ran spybot, and antivir. Spybot found the usual (mywebsearch etc) and that was about it.

Ive tried re-installing IE and a fresh firefox but still no joy.

Any ideas guys

We need to know more about when it was connected to the other network. Can you ping Google? Can you get DNS resolution? What errors do you get? What IP settings do you get from DHCP?

Its not proxy details they are on auto.

Cant ping google, cant get a resolution either, dns times out.

The error that comes up in IE is that it cannot connect to the internet, and if i diagnose it says there is no problem.

Ive flushed the DNS, still nothing.

Im a major network noob (cant get my pc and xbox to talk, altho they used to) so if you could point me in the right directionwhere to look :)

& is that a nice shiny new sig burnsy?

(also this may need placed in the network thread)

Sounds a lot like malware to me. Is the DNS in the DHCP settings set to auto?
Can you try pinging 209.85.227.103 (thats google btw) if you get a response from the ping type that IP address into the browsers address bar.

right, i can ping google, but it wont connect via ip it says address is not valid, and the address bar says http:///
