If this thread happens to attract anyone who has an Aeron, please can you tell me if there is *any* change in the level of cushioning it gives your arse as it gets older, the chair that is. I.e. is it completely immune to the compression that normal foam cushion chairs get after heavy use?
I actually visited Herman Miller's head office in London and got them to show me the entire range. I fully expected to order an Aeron but in the end I bought the following:
Herman Miller Precision Mirra
Adjustable arms
Tilt limiter and forward tilt
Seat Depth - FlexFront Adjustable
Back Material - TriFlex Polymer
Back support - Adjustable lumbar - AJ
Base / frame finish - Graphite - G1
Castors / glides - 65mm Castors carpet - BB Back finish - Graphite - G1
Armpad colour - Black - BK
Seat finish - Graphite dark - 7Q01
The reason was it is a newer design (a newer version is due shortly which I say in but preferred this one) and has more adjustment, most importantly for me the front seat is adjustable under the knees, the Aeron isn't. Ive only had the seat for a few weeks but I did have an Aeron some years back and that never sagged or wore in the 3 years I used it.
I am 46 and suffer from pelvis and coccyx pain which is why crappy Ikea seats just don't cut it I'm afraid. What I have found is you need to bed yourself into a good seat, it takes a few weeks to get it set right and you will get pain as you back is held in a position is is perhaps not used to, i.e. correctly. I had TERRIBLE coccyx pain 3 days in and I was about to send it back, but got over that and its gone completely now. I also had cronic pelvis pain 5 days in but again that is now history.
You notice it when you stand after prolonged sitting how good your back feels. That is what you pay for.
