There is talk on the radio about trying to set up shooting gallerys for junkys as a place to go and inject there Heroin.
These would be legal centres where needles are supplied and where the junkys could go for a safe fix.
This is being done in other countrys so what are your thoughts on it being set up here.

I think its going to encourage it.

Its all well and good keeping scagheads safe (well, is it?), but we don't want to create more.

There's the BBC article for anyone interested.

I think it's a good idea, but I can see the argument that it would encourage local drug dealing. Surely you can't stop heroin addicts meeting up at these places and freely trading information about where to get the best stuff etc...?

honestly i think it disgraceful, giving people places to shootup is just advertising it, this sort of habit should be discourged not the other way round. I can see the reason this charity wants to help keep it clean but the habit is an inherintly dirty one

Well good... in fact, there's a house near me up for sale too! I'd love a load of smackheads to use that as a drug den.

We can all make it easier for them though... if you go out make sure you leave your windows open too... and hey... why not the cash and jewellery on display on your kitchen table.

Or... instead of "helping" them like this, we could spend the money on getting rid of the issue at hand, as opposed to sweeping it under (read: into) the carpet (read: free house). Something like this can never be dealt with in an "out of sight out of mind" attitude, becausew it'll (adversly) affect the people living near them in terms of feeling secure in your own home.

I should have said that i think they should set them up and then when they get there just lock them up and dry them out.
China years ago dealt with there problem this way.
They gave every scag head one chance to get off. Caught again they were hung.
That is the kind of incentive a scag head will understand.

When they mentioned shooting galleries did anyone else think they were relaxing the laws regarding gun clubs?? I was really dissappointed when i read what the story was about.

Can't say that's the greatest idea in my opinion. Especially seeing as China is hardly the best model for social and humanitarian progress.

When people are addicted to heroin, its VERY difficult to dry out. It is the best way IMO too.

Someone once said to me, you can never be a non smoker... just a smoker who has not had a cigarette in XX days/weeks/months.

The same goes for a heroin addict.

Clean needles and a safe place are both good ideas IMHO, they are still going to do it so I would rather they do it there with fellow drug users than in the public toilets, clean needles mean less disease which can only be a postitive thing.

So you reckon that every single person that does heroin should be hung if they don't quit after the first time they are warned? Heroin is physically addictive as far as I know; sometimes it isn't that easy.

If they're going to get hold of it, at least let them use clean needles. The health service doesn't need more HIV or Hepatitis patients. Other things tend to kill scagheads. Would be an awesome police sting area. You know you'd get some numpty dealing out of them.

Maybe not but they know how to deal with smackheads. The same thing happened in Thailand a few years ago where they had a massive crackdown on the dealers, they shot them and in doing so drasticallyu reduced heroin dealing and use almost overnight.

Ask yourself a question and the same question of the British public, do you care if a heroin dealer is 'removed'? I think we all know the answer.

The only positive thing I can think of is that it'll be away from the public. No dirty needles lying around, etc.

However, I would hope that they're being monitored so that it can be combatted.

swings and roundabouts though, really. i've always said we could do with a good dose of communism!! :p

why can't the money going into these SmackHavens (wow, they should call them that!!) be put towards improved rehabilitation?
