Hex core games ?

If a game is multithreaded properly it'll be able to use how ever many cores you have, that doesn't mean tasks will be scheduled evenly by your os, especially considering not all commonly used algorithms in games lend themselves to threading.
 
Wasn't there something about GTA4 benefiting from hex due to the engine being optimised to run with a 6-thread-supporting CPU (xbox360 cpu)?
 
Bit dubious of that up to 40% improvement over quadcore claim for Civ5, I mean even if the threading was working 100% efficiently you'd still only see a ~33% improvement...
Just seems a bit of a lazy article, no testing methodology mentioned, just some random screenshots with a supposed gain written underneath it.
