Hexxeh’s ChromiumOS Zero – It’s out!

The major improvement in this new build of Chrome OS over the previous builds is that it supports most of the WiFi chipsets. This new build also has a slight improvement in speed and a new boot time splash screen.

Chromium OS is to Chrome Os what Chromium browser is to Chrome Browser :-)

Chromium is the technology that chrome OS and browser are based upon, but the final shipping product is (will be) Chrome OS and Chrome browser.

However since all this is open source then others are free to get the latest code and compile it themselves - that is what this is.

Is this the one that stops your life being sent to google over the internets? (as opposed to the google version)

Had a play with this a week or so ago. FAST! Like, WOW FAST! But that's about it. Not much works yet since a majority of fun stuff on the web relies on Flash. It is nice, however, having a single sign-on for all the Google applications such as gmail, google docs, or Picasa.

I purchased a 2GB flash drive for it for $7 (about £4.50) since 1GB drives just aren't available anymore. The image fits nicely and it required very minimal configuration to get it to run. No real tricks and the FAQ covers the install instructions nicely.

I added a section to his FAQ about configuring a proxy server, but if anyone can figure out how to get it to load prior to the login screen it would be a big help.

vmware and USB doesnt work for me, bootup to blank screen. rubbish

anyone got it working in virtualbox?
may install this on my old laptop if I can be arsed to get an IDE-CF adaptor.

what version of vmware are you using? VMware versions earlier than 7 have lots of problems negotiating removable devices from the host OS to the virtual guest OS.

Also, vmware can natively mount .iso files as drives.
