Hi all,

Been out of the game for a wee while now, had to shift my last setup (prolly still in my sig) to free up some emergency cash and now......I want back in.

I see things have changed a fair bit since i last built though so would appreciate it if you could cast your eyes over below spec and let me know your thoughts?

HIS HD 7950 IceQ BOOST 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (H795QC3G2M) **FREE SHIPPING** £191.99
Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - OEM £167.99
Samsung 120GB SSD 840 EVO SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7TE120BW) £83.99
ASRock Z77 Pro4-M Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard £77.99
OCZ ZT 650W '80 Plus Bronze' Modular Power Supply £71.99
Arctic Cooling Freezer Xtreme Rev.2 High Performance Quiet CPU Cooler £29.99

I have a case but no monitor, i was gaming at 1980 x 1200 but dont think i will be going back there, will probably just be 1080p......will keep an eye for a deal on that but can use our telly in the meantime.

With regards to games, Crysis (all), Bioshock (all), BF, HL2 etc.....you can probably get the gist of my preferences from that

Any and all criticisms or suggestions would be gratefully accepted guys

Regards
Andy

Cheers bud......another fyi is that this is very much a price focused build.

You probably all guessed that though

Trying to go ivybridge to get something as cool running, overclockable and upgradeable in the future if needed.

Again, i have been off the boat for a while so going for the above is simply a cost vs newest tech kind thing.

Always go for a retail cpu I know you save a could have quid and you don't need the cpu cooler but you get a 3 year warranty with retail and only 1 year with oem.

Hey guys.....jeepers.....quite a while ago and due to financial constraints, i never got this built.

The itch is too much now though and i have managed to acquire a 27" 1080p monitor at least so really want to get this underway.

My budget is circa 600-650 and i am not including the SSD in this as i have one of those too.

Things have moved on a bit and prices have obviously changed so the spec i am thinking of for a solid gaming build is as follows. Would really appreciate any thoughts or if you can think if any of it should/could be done differently?

Stock cooler for now and i will oc at some stage in the future so bear that in mind. I may just go for a good air cooler then too given they cost next to nowt. Are Arctic Cooling still on the money for this?

Do you need everything bar the SSD? I have just gone and replaces your parts with different parts... I imagine your spec comes close to £650 without a case?

Heres what I came up with:

YOUR BASKET
1 x MSI Radeon R9 280X Gaming Edition OC 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £245.99
1 x Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - OEM £167.99
1 x Gigabyte Z87M-D3H Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard £95.99
1 x Corsair Hydro H80i High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler £71.99
1 x TeamGroup Vulcan ORANGE 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLAD38G2400HC11CDC01) £55.99
1 x BeQuiet Pure Power L8 500W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply - With 120mm Silent Wing Fan Built in £53.99
Total : £701.53 (includes shipping : £8.00).

Similar spec, except I have gone for a 280X instead of a 770. The 280X is better value for money... I have also gone for a gigabyte mobo, this is generally because I believe gigabyte produce the best mobo's. The RAM is also slightly faster. I have lowered the PSU down to 500W because unless you plan to CF in the future, 650W for a single card is over kill.

Hope this helps :)

seems like a good spec :) similar to what im building, i prefer the 770 for shadowplay/physX etc, but honestly the 280x is great also, they trade blows and the 280x is a bit cheaper, i actually don't agree with the gigabyte mobo someone suggested as a saw a particularly bad review stating it was very flimsy and would stick with the MSI (personally)

Cheers bud.....only going for the 770 as i have had great luck with NVidia and nothing but bad luck with AMD/ATI cards.....i know that's subjective but you go with what you know :)
