Hey guys, I'm after some advice as to which car to purchase in the new year. I have been told that the car scheme that my company runs has now ended therefore when my current car goes back in January I will need to go out and purchase a car.

I currently have a Honda Civic Type S CTDI. I have 8K to spend, I anticipate doing 12k miles a year, so not massive mileage.

I also have to look at the potential running costs incl insurance, therefore i do not want anything too racy. I have been quoted £880 on a golf gt 2.0 150bhp which is probably near the max that i would wish to pay.

The cars currently targeted as follows

Golf 2.0
Focus 2.0
Audi A3 2.0
Mini Cooper S

Any assistance would be much appreciated as i am not totally up on which cars are best and at what spec.

Cheers guys

The Cooper S is a small, chuckable hot hatch which is reasonably quick. The rest of the cars are middling family hatchbacks which are not small, chuckable or reasonably quick.

What do you want from a car? Thrills or just a nice car?

£880 is a lot of money to insure a 2.0 Golf, have you shopped around?

HI Fox, i got those quotes from gocompare just as for an idea. I have not had to purchase my own car for a number of years.

I did have a mini cooper as my last company car, did like it as was a fun car to drive. Just not sure if would need to spend more than 8k to get a good one.
