Please Take the time to read what I have wrote, cuz it seems PCs give me nothing but trouble, and I just wanna make sure i have everything covered with my problem - Thanks in Advance.

My current rig, is:
Athlon 64 3200+
Dual Sata II Socket 939 mobo (Asrock)
Jeantech 300W PSU, 1.5g ram.
Geforce LE 6800 128MB.

I recently bought some upgrades, from OcUK.
I bought a BFG Geforce 8800GTS. and a Akasa Paxpower 500W ATX 2.2 PSU.

My uncle came round yesterday to fit it all together. He built it all, and when he pressed the power switch on the case, nothing happened at all. At First we thought it was that we'd put the power switch plug in the wrong socket on the mobo, but it turned out it was right.

Later, as in today, we found out the reason as to why the new PSU doesn't work, and the old one does.

the Akasa 24 pin mobo connector, breaks off, giving you a second 4 pin, 12 Volt Connector, and it looks, like that particular 4 pin connector was built by a cabbage. Beacause it's Backwards. It doesn't fit the motherboard. on the 14 pin 12 Volt connector, there's two of the pins, that have rounded edges, and 2 that are square. my old, Jeantech 300W PSU, is top left, and bottom right (rounded pins) the 500W Paxpower, is bottom left, top right. and it doesn't fit. we read somewhere on the Asrock site, that they have their own thingymajig or whatever, and that it would work without the 4 pin connector actually connectoed, so we unplugged it, and presto it worked. But it actually turns out it didn't work, no signal was being sent to the monitor, and windows wasn't even getting to the post in the bios screen. (the beep sound) we tried, with different GPUS, and Both PSUs, and came to the conclusion that it is the new PSU thats incompatible.

Now i'm Back using my old setup, just barely. and the fan on my 6800 went ages ago, and it ticks constantly, and I have a big housefan blowing into the coverless case, and it sounds like a bloody lawnmower :s

Now thats explained, here are my questions:

Does ATX 2.2 mean it won't fit Normal ATX motherboards? and if so, why make the 24 pin connector, detachable into a 20, and a 4 pin.

Since the wiring is different on the akasa 4 pin, as it is my old 300W PSU, it seems that the plug wasn't made wrongly, or by mistake, it seems like it was meant to, and if so, going back to my first question, is ATX2.2 incompatible with Normal, standard ATX motherboards, Beacause it seems that the Akasa PSU is sold giving the buyer the idea that it's compatible with my motherboard.

and, finally, if it is, a new specification of psu to motherboard compatibility, it stands to reason there would be an adapter for it, such is with DVI to VGA. and if so, could someone post me a link.

Thank you guys, I really appreciate any and all help.

atx 2.2 should fit an atx 2.0 board.

if you mother board has a 20 pin connectors then in theory you just take of the extra 4 like you have done and plug in the 20 pin.

now there should also be a 4 pin connector on your mobo square shape. the 4 pins you took of the 24 DO NOT go in there. you should have a seperate 4 pin connector or possible an 8pin that breaks in half. this is what goes in t he 4 pin square thing.

No you wouldn't need that adapter.

I think you are doing something wrong here - the 4 pins that break off the main 20pins atx connector is so that it is compatible with the old 20pins mobos, like your asrock dual sata2. Note that the 4 pins that break off DOES NOT go to the separate 4 pins 12V socket, there should be another 4 pins from the PSU which is dedicated for that.

Newest ATX 2.2 should have 24 pins ATX connector with a separate 4 / 8 pins 12V and is compatible with all previous ATX specifications.

I've been scouring around, and come up with some more information.

According to the Asrock website, and the manual for my mobo, it simply won't run if the 20+4 psu connector isn't plugged in, i mean, the 4 pin in particular, unless thats plugged in, it won't work. so the adapter won't help.

and as far as I can tell, the PSU i got from OcUK isn't faulty, so I can't send it back. I have 3 options.

either, my uncle takes the 4 pin plug apart, and replaces it with the 4 pin plug from my other psu, which is quite dodgy, beacause the 4 pin connector on the akasa doesn't have the same color cables as my old psu, and u can't tell for sure which one goes where.

or, i buy a new, ***** psu, or a new mobo
gg :s

oh and, my akasa psu, doesn't have any seperate square shaped 4 pin connectors to fit into that hole. the only 4 pin 12 volt connector i have, is part of the 24, and it's the wrong shape ;s

did you read what we posted above ??????

your power supply has a 20+4 pin large power connector. if you mobo requires 20 pins take of the 4 and plug in the 20.

then there will also be a 4 pin conector on yoru mobo. this DOES NOT use t he 4 pins you just removed. the should be a seperate wire with the 4 pin connector on it.

these are the wiring info from akasa

4-pin molex connectors x6
4-pin floppy connectors x2
SATA connectors x4
Motherboard connectors 1 x 24/20pins
6-pin connectors x2
8-pin connectors x1 (2x 4-pin)

its the 8 pin power cable you need. you seperate it into 2x 4pin and plug one of the 4 pins into the 4 pin connector.

i checked, just this second mate, the only square shaped 4 pin connector that comes from the psu, is the one that was removed from the 24

Glad you got it sorted mate ;) Was really worried when you said you were gonna take the pins apart and replace them with ones from the old Jeantech

well I tried it, put the psu into the mobo, the graphics card, and the pc didn't boot up, so perhaps i did something wrong, I dunno how to put the ******** together but my uncle does, so i'll wait for him to get home from work tomorrow and sort it out.

however atleast the 8 pin, split into 4 fits perfectly, so if that works, the rest hopefully will.

thanks guys, works fine now :D

all I need now is a clip on SATAII cable and i'm good to go.

i really appreciate your help <3

p.s this card is a monster
