:( you know 1920 x 1200 and 30 inch 2560 x 1600 monitors have been out for quite a while, arn't there any plans for higher resolutions for us to game on, or do we have to wait for hardware to catch up

Larger monitors? Or monitors and more managable sizes with higher resolutions?
If you want high-res, buy a CRT! My now-unused monitor (that's sitting next to me) does a mega 2048x1536 at 19".

EDIT: quality, descriptive thread title there btw!

I believe a few QuadHD monitors have been made, and a few other ones with huge resolutions. However, they are generally in the price range of tens of thousands of pounds and specialised for medical applications.

I don't anticipate mainstream monitors much bigger than 2560x1600 for a few years as running games on such hi res is extremely difficult and the panels are very expensive. Maybe if these new dx11 cards will have enough oomph to play all games properly on these massive panels, bigger panels may become viable.

I do agree with you there but its been quite a few years since we had a res bump, Quad Hd would be nice on a managable size though - 24-30 inch imo, I do hope it becomes a possibility soon, current 1920 x 1200 are becoming more mainstream and depriciating in value

i agree with andi that we wont see those res for ages, remember most games the consoles run in 720 even on a 1080p tv. Outputting to that high res is a strain even on some of the most powerful machines around.
