Hey:)

I have just joined the team peeps and im completely new to the whole folding thing. I did a lot of SETI back in the old'un days! And just recently left UD because its shut down now.

Just set it up and i think its running ok just hope it doesnt disturbe my gaming time :p

Ive installed the Fahmon monitor and seems to be alright but the % bar isnt moving at all, does it normally take quite awhile? Also its using quite a lot of memory 106,000k...

Anyway Hi :)

What spec is your machine and which client are you running?

Some Work Units can take as little as 12 hours and some up to 3 days. So yes, they can take this long :p

The best way of telling if any progress is being made is in FahMon to go to Monitoring > Show/Hide Fahlog.

This opens the folding log and it should update after each frame [of which there are 100]. Frame times obviously vary but you should see the numbers going up at least once an hour.

Yeah i think its making some progress.

[20:11:55] Completed 0 out of 250000 steps (0)
[20:41:54] Timered checkpoint triggered.
[20:42:53] Writing local files
[20:42:53] Completed 2500 out of 250000 steps (1)
[21:12:54] Timered checkpoint triggered.

My rig is:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 440 l Radeon X800 XT PE l 3GB PC3200 l Abit AV8 l WIN XP Pro l 1mb DSL

Ill get a one of the laptops on the go at some point too.

I wouldn't bother with your laptop unless it is a beast. Anything like a Cellery and it isn't worth the 3 minute battery life it will reduce you to :p

Hello.:)

I thought CPU folding was a tad slow when I first started, you get used to it after a while.:)

Welcome :)

If you're gonna fold on your laptop, make sure the cooling/ventilation are adequate as they can get pretty toasty otherwise. I've used Notebook Hardware Control to reduce the CPU volts from 1.2625 under load to 0.975, which has cooled it down a lot.

Welcome to team 10:)
FahMon usually takes 2 or 3 frames before it outputs ETA & progress -@ least for me.
Are you running 2 clients? If only 1 then you gaming should be undisturbed.

Welcome back to the darkest corner of the forums :p

I definately recognise the name from the old SETI days even though my memories are distant and blurred :D
