ORLY? well mechanically the block and its guts are sound. with a car running over 2 BAR and 8krpm plus i think he noticed in plenty of time

That is badger 5s Ibiza by the look of it, its a road legal race car running around 700-800bhp in an Ibiza from a bored out 1.8T that can rev to 8k. I suspect he would have been on the track at the time it started to overheat.

he had said he had heard a grumble and splutter, pulled over straight away. he estimates each cylinder would have been 15BAR ish which may explain what happened to the rad. standard OE rad on that, i think he said it was OE gasket (and like you said the lump is bored) so thinks that may have been the cause

not had much luck with its latest incarnation

Just checked and it went quickly on the straight at castlecomb and he pulled over straight away as the photo shows it went with a fair bit of smoke !!
