as some people know i got an asus p9x79 board and couldnt get the board to post, had the cpu tested and working fine, the memory was from my 2700k setup (samsung green) and psu is my corsair hx850 all of which was working.

When the power supply was switched on i got the standy power led on but would do anything else, as all the other components were working in my other machine and tested on friends pc i put it down to a faulty motherboard, contacted OCUk to get the board returned and order the pro version of the board, arrived this morning connected all up only to discover it still has the same issue, both bios's were updated on the boards via asus bios flashback to rule out bios issues, contacted OCUK technical chap suggested a compatability issue with the corsair HX 850, going to test my psu on friends i3960k setup to see if it powers it up.

When testing motherboard had it on cardboard box with 2 slots of ram in tried suggested dimm slots and slots recommended by OCUK to no avail, had 1 fan connected to fan header on board, nothing connected other than 2 sticks of memory and 1 fan nothing else no sata etc but nothing seems to work

Anything i could try

any help is much apprectiated

just curious as to whats stopping it from functioning

Asus pro has onboard power switch had cpu fan connected, ocuk techy told me tht sb-e needs 2 dimms to run but tried all different configurations, this 1 got me stumped.

Did you test the boards before updating them using Asus flashback?

tested before and after updating bios still no boot

i would set it up outside of your case,on wooden/cardboard surface

its just sat on the mb cardboard box still no booting

Maybe just to rule it out, test your PSU with a multi-meter if you can borrow one? It seems too much of a coincidence to have 2 boards with the same issue

as in what kind of testing, the psu is currently running my i7 2700k setup with watercooling so plenty of fans etc and having no issues just wondering if its a compatibility issue with psu

could it be possible that the corsair hx850 be faulty in that its supplying sufficient for the i7 2700k setup but when i try for the 3930k setup its not producing enough juice on the 8pin connection which feeds the cpu side
