hi all need help with overclocking

thats a good read m8,blend test still going strong (3hrs so far) and the temps are around 50-55c mark, in all going well.
apart from the smell of citrus fruit tim cleaner. lmao

ran prime blend and all was ok no errors or warnings, heres a pic i took during prime

was told to alter my ram to get it to or near to 1066 how would i go about that plz this bit is confusing me a bit also my volts i have set cpu to the vid of 1.3 and i think my ram volts is on auto but i had a look at my ram sticks and states 2.1v any help on this bit would help then see if i can up it to 3.4ghz and that be it i think

so let me get this right then(newbie alert lol) im testing this now but not actually gonna save just wanted to see what i get. ok
go bios
cpu ratio setting change from auto to manual how is it typed in 0.8 is this right?
increase fsb from 356 to 400?
then change dram frequency from ddr2-713mhz to either 801mhz,961mhz,1280.so if i was to get close to 1066mhz what would it be?
dram voltage is on auto my ram is 2.1volts should i add this in?

right i put this in my proper thread this time help if read the right forum first lol!!

ok so far its stable at 3.2ghz ran prime small fft and blend no problems left it running all day whilst at work temps 57c max im set at

cpu ratio frequency 08.0
fsb frequency 400
pcie frequency 100
fsb strap to north bridge 400mhz
dram frequency ddr2-1066mhz
dram frequency manual
cas latency 5 dram clocks
dram ras to cas delay 5dram clocks
dram precharge 5dram clocks
dram ras active to precha 15 dram clocks
rest on auto

cpu voltage 1.30
dram voltage 2.10
rest on auto
cpu spread spectrum disabled
pcie spread spectrum disabled

advanced
cpu ratio setting 08.0
cie support disabled
max cpuid value limit disabled
intel virtualiztion tech enabled
cpu tm function enabled
excute disable bit enabled

think i have set everything correct, should i go to 3.6ghz whats the next best settings to add?

ps: my core voltage under full load is 1.288 is that ok?

i dont understand how you can have a ram to fsb ratio of 0:8 or even 0.8: what ever?

Im abit of a newbie here too though i have overclocked before and have a custom w/c rig

surely you want a ratio that will take it as close to a 1:1 that you can get where it be 5:4 or your rams max's out before then just at its limit

Are you referring to "cpu ratio frequency 08.0", cos I think he means his multiplier is 8x?

so should i go to the next stage and up it to 3.4ghz if so what should i set it to fsb dram ect,im suprised i anit had a fail yet not complaing tho!!

I personally would go to 3.3, 3.4, 3.5 etc until you hit a wall.

As mentioned before, its FSBxMulti to get ya clock. So FSB x 8 will give you 3300 (or as close as) and thats ya FSB, so 413 will get you to 3.3GHz.

Then change the strap and/or ram freq to keep it on or below 1066 so as you don;t overclock your RAM. You are just working on your CPU, you can try to clock the RAM at a later date.

well its stable at 3.3ghz i have ran prime nearly all afternoon and not one error,is it strange that im running it at 3.3 on standard volt settings temps at full load 55c highest,or am i a lucky bugger or is there a problem,i really thought by now i would be getting errors,if all is ok then i am well chuffed.

why is it that in bios i got 1.3v but in cpu-z i got core voltage at 1.288v? sometimes it goes to 1.3v then drop back to 1.288v

its gone quite on my thread lol

ok right stable at 3.4 think temps gone to 62max on full load might try push it to 3.6 but might leave it at 3.4 for now,

anyway if someone can help me get my ram sorted now fancy overclocking it at min i have it at just over a 1000 how much oc can it do or will i no see much differance, how do i go about overclocking ram

the ram is pc8500 c5 dominator 1066mhz with cooling fans.

cheers

ok i have hit a wall i think went to 3.5ghz then rebooted and had the blue screen argghh.
here's the bios

anyway i dropped to 3.4ghz
cpu ratio setting 0.8
fsb 333
dram frequency 1021mhz
cpu volts 1.3000
dram 2.10

advanced

cpu spread spec disabled
pcie spread disabled
cpu clock skew auto
c1e support disabled
max cpuid value limit disabled

everything else is auto,so what should i do now or is this the end and cant get to 3.6ghz,all temps on 3.4ghz are stable idle 27c/ full load 58c.

i know its something about the volts as mine are on stock but this bit im a bit worried about putting to much through cpu should i now leave it at 3.4 and work on getting ram done i dont have a clue how the ram is done so if you want to type out how to do it that be great.

cheers

Up the vcore to 1.32 or sumin (of if you are very scared, just up it to 1.31) then run small ffts for 30 mins, if it dies up it again.

Not sure what the max volt you should put thru a 6600, have to ask someone who has one, I wouldn't go over 1.4 on my q9550 so it may be similar, but don;t quote me on that. But your temps will also dictate how many volts to put thru though, so always keep an eye on them, cos your airflow in your case may not be as good as mine, on the flipside it may be better :)

failed at 1.31 screen went black fans went crazy i upped the settings to
cpu ratio setting 0.8
fsb 438 (3.5ghz
fsb strap 333
dram frequency 1021mhz
cpu volts 1.31250v
dram 2.10

advanced

cpu spread spec disabled
pcie spread disabled
cpu clock skew auto
c1e support disabled
max cpuid value limit disabled

I suspect your gonna need the voltage in the 1.4v region. The higher the clockspeed the larger the jumps in voltage required. But keep upping the vcore until you can get the system to boot, then run a prime95 small fft test for half hour or so, if it fails, add another notch on the vcore and test again. The q6600 are ok with voltage upto 1.5v, but always keep an eye on the temps with coretemp and try not to go above 75'c:)

ok i have it at 3.5ghz
cpu volts are 1.4v
temps are 69c 69c 63c 63c at full load
temps t idle 32c 31c 31c 27c
i have ran prime for 30mins on small fft.
my ram is currently at 1052

should i stick at this as temps are getting high
what should i do about ram or is that ok at 1052

cheers
