Hello all, this forum was recommended to me from someone who is a member of another forum of which i am a member of.

I have been building Pc's my whole life, with my current PC lasting well for the last 3 years. At the moment its an athlon 3200 64,1 GB OCZ(?)platinum ram, Asus k8v se deluxe mobo, radeon x800 XT PE and two IDE hard drives at 40gigs each.

I use this for the internet, excel, but more importantly, FLIGHTSIM.

So, I bought flightsim X, and on the above machine its playable, but all the sliders are down, and even then it stutters, so its time for an upgrade.

I am thinking of getting the matrox triple head 2go with 3 monitors with track IR, but as i am been out of the computing loop for a while need help, ie best bang for ma bucks!!!, So with a budget of £700 (ish) what would you buy for the following.

CPU
MOBO
RAM
Graphics Card.

Like i said, this will be mainly for flightsim x, so the more power the better.

Cheers all.

Claimed, I mean, welcome to the forums ;)

I would go for this:-

Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme Heatsink (Socket AM2/LGA775)
(£32.89)

Leadtek GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail
(£217.36)

OcUK 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Dual Channel Kit
(£164.48)

Abit IP35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
(£88.11)

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "LGA775 Kentsfield" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail
(£176.24)

Total : £689.60

Get a nexus/yate loon from somewhere else for that heatsink.

that was a quick response :-)

2 questions.

Whats "Get a nexus/yate loon from somewhere else for that heatsink"

and i will be going down the sata route this time, i take it is fairly simple!

OcUK 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Dual Channel Kit
(£164.48)

Theres really no need for 8500 i would get this instead:

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C5 800MHz Value DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400DC)
£57.99 (£68.14)

£136.28 for 4GB

Right place right time :D

My favourite type of fan is nexus / yate loon. You'll need one as that heatsink doesn't come with a fan. Search for them, they are worth getting for quiet/ powerful operation. Failing that, Scythe fan should do.

Sata route is very simple, plug in and go. XP has the drivers built in.

Fair point :)

should i run the following on XP or Vista.

I have tried vista, and i am not crazy about it, but if i would see a good performance increase, then will concede to it!

Also, will the following fit in my thermaltake xaser 3 case????

64Bit Vista will recognise all 4GB of RAM, I would probably go with Vista unless you know that some apps won't work on it. It won't offer a performance increase.

Should all fit in that case.

ok then ;) ,

I was actully about 10 too, and I asked my Dad for my first PC.

So i wole up, went downstairs, and to my dismay, all there was were little boxes in the area for my pile fo presents. Si i started to unwrap them, while seeing if there was a pc shaped box anywhere, but alas, there wasnt. Anyway, kept unwrapping my pressies, and one by one, i was getting cd drive here, a stick of ram there. By the end of it all, i had all the compentes to buold my first pc, and my Dad said, if you want one, build one. And from there on, i have been building them myself.

That's a really good idea, points to your dad for really thinking about that.

I am glad he did it, but spending two dayys back when i was wee having to take notes as i went along was a pain, but i remember installing a demo of f16 fighting falcons, which was good, and duke nukem and i think doom 3.

Well, i bought it all, and will be with me by tomorrow!!!!!!!

I will post pics if wanted!

Cheers

One more question, i want to have 2 19" widescreens on this pc, used for flightsim.
A\ I believe the video cardd has 2 dvi slots. Is this roght?
b\ Will that dramatically affect flight sim, or should i buy the matrox double head 2go?
