... I have a question!

I did a quick search about and unfortunately couldn't find an answer to my problem so I thought I'd post.

I've been a long time reader of these forums and the info you guys have posted have really helped me in choosing new parts for my PC.

Essentially my PC is rebooting (no BSOD or other error, just an instant reboot) without warning. When windows restarts I get the usual "Windows has recovered from a serious error" message and I can continue as normal.

It's done it three or four times now, once when it was on the desktop running no extra apps, another time when I was chatting to a friend on Teamspeak, and the other times during Battlfield 2142 games.

I am running this spec:

Intel C2D E6600 (stock) with a Zalman Cooler
Asus P5N32-E Sli Mobo
4Gb Corsair XMS2 Ram (4-4-4-12 Timings)
Currently using an X850 XT PE GFX Card as my EVGA 8800GTX was DOA :(
Tagan 580w Modular PSU

I'm suspecting the memory is the issue with the reboots but I have no spare memory to try in it's place. is there any way I can test the memory? (Sorry but I haven't done much in the way of fault diagnosis before - all my old PC's were pain free builds :) )

Is there anything else that could cause these issues I'm experiancing as I really am a total noob when it comes to fixing things... breaking things, thats a whole new ball game! :p

I think the voltage was OK to be honest, I'll double check but I think it was in the region of 1.9v, but I'll double check to make sure.

Trying the sticks one at a time is probably a good bet - can't believe I didn't think of that!

According to ASUS Probe;

CPU Temp is 15*C
MB Temp is 24*C

Both of the above are reported this way in the BIOS, however SiSoft Sandra reports the Motherboard at 94*C (Can't be right surely??)

Voltages are;

CPU: 1.26v
Mem: 1.9v

Everything looks OK to me but then again... :)

I expect the ram should be 2.1-2.3v range; what is the exact model of the memory?

First thing you need to do is turn off auto-restart in the System Properties this will stop your PC rebooting adn should in theory give you a lovely BSOD, from that you should be able to work out what is causing the problem

Cheers

Thanks for the advice so far guys - its very much appreciated!

I've turned off the auto restart so all I have to do now is crash it!

Typically its been stable for the last three and a half hours :rolleyes:

its only pc6400 so 1.9v should be plenty :S

My PC6400 requires 2.1v to operate normally at stock speeds.

@OP : Is there a sticker on the ram itself to suggest the volts it needs?

That link the OP posted says it needs btween 1.8 and 2.2v also the review that was linked says it needs 2.0v

Would this be what I'm after?

As I said I'm good until things go wrong :(

From what I can see it says 2.1V max. I have similar ram (c3) and it likes 2v at least. Try 2.0v and feedback.

Turns out the motherboard had set the timings at 5-5-5-15, so I put them down to 4-4-4-12 and set the voltage at 2.0 for the time being :)

I'll keep it like this for now and I'll report back when it all goes blue :)
