Hi all

I have just joined the forum as I am looking at buying a couple of new peripherals (namely a k/b and mouse - possibly a sound card). I have used OCUK to buy many computing products over the last 6 years or so and have done around 4 builds for other people + misc bits and bobs. Their new place is a little bit easier to find and has a bit of a bigger reception xD

Anyway, I havent really kept up with computing components and peripherals in the last couple of years as I havent done any more builds or had the funds to update my own. My personal rig is still fundamentally the same as when I built it in 2006. This seems quite a useful place for reading up on stuff :)

My Rig

Core 2 Duo E6600 (2.4Ghz)
Asus P5N32-E SLI mobo
2gb of Corsair XMS DDR2 RAM
Nvidia 8800 GTS (640mb)
Corsair HX620W Modular PSU
Viewsonic VX922 19'' TFT (2ms G2G)
Logitech MX518 mouse (just in the process of dying from well known 'cable break' problem)
Logitech G15 (V1) Keyboard (still functioning fully but wrist pad and feet broken)
Windows Vista 32 (Originally XP Pro - wish I never upgraded tbh!)
Antec BFG900 Case

Yes, its a little old now, BUT I can testify that it has been a flawless system and still runs extremely stable and handles anything I throw at it (within reason). The monitor is still going strong with no dead pixels that I can see and the PSU has never skipped a beat. However I have never been interested in overclocking so it has been run on standard settings since I built it. It runs newer games respectably well considering its age.

I can hand on heart say, this Rig has been solid. I guess quality components and no overclocking have helped. I am an FPS gamer, and this rig has been used heavily since I built it (most days for 6 years). Primarily I play Quake III Arena (Real Q3 not that QL ****!) with the Threewave mod. But I have also clocked up over 250hrs on Skyrim recently and will play any half decent single player FPS title. I have also been known to play RTS too. Generals anyone?

I am currently playing Q3 (obviously) and Borderlands, Dead Space 2, Mass Effect 2, Skyrim and Deus Ex HR.

Cheers

Buff

Welcome :-)

That PC is still an ok spec for now, and you can't fault the Viewsonic monitors. Shame you don't see them around as much nowadays. Should your VX922 finally go pop though, then a good upgrade would be the Dell U2410 or U2412. People on Overclockers do seem to rate the U2410 the most though.
