Hi all

I am enjoying looking round the site and seeing the items up for sale.

Won a motherboard on ebay today which is how I found this site. Can't wait for it to be delivered so I can set the bad boy up.

Motherboard is an Asus P5Q premium, paid a whole £44 for it which includes shipping. Result!

At the same time I was bidding on a graphics card (GTX 460) from a different seller but lost that (luckily) when it went for close to the cost of a brand new card.

Subsequently I saw another auction for a different graphics card, the Sapphire HD4850 X2 2GB which I managed to snag for £129. Paid for that via paypal and seconds later someone goes and purchases something I am selling on ebay thus putting money on paypal.

Oh well, guess I'll have to look round here to see what I can purchase. I'm glad I have a friendly wife willing to let me feed my craving for making a mountain of old computer parts (I will use them one day to make a modern day masterpiece and I'll be rich I tells ya).

Anyway, great to be a member of the site.

A little about myself:
I am a registered ubuntu linux distributor and a Fedora linux Ambassador, as well as a supporter of open source software in general, using my dedicated server as an official mirror for several open source projects such as openoffice.org, getdeb.net, firefox to name a few.

Hope to get to know you all much better

Greg

Thanks all for the welcomes

Sure kone, call me G. After all my name is huge and you boys from the valleys are so swamped with waiting for the buses to turn up every third Tuesday at 7:15 AM.

<for those that want to take offence, please don't, I don't mean it>

Just got confirmation of motherboard delivery, "between 11:38 AM and 12:38 PM".. come on - 11:30 - 12:40 fair enough but to be scheduled on such an arbitrary boundary seems a little overboard.

Still, can't wait for it to arrive!

Okay G, nice to see you have a sense of humour at least. :)

Motherboard arrived at 11:44, just installed it and booted flawlessly into linux.

Less than 2 hours for a stripdown and full rebuild, not bad for me at all.

Just waiting for the new graphics card to arrive so I can add that too.

Only one minor (at least minor for me, a showstopper for someone less skilled than myself) issue - one of the pins was bent on the CPU socket, a steady hand and a needle soon put it right.

Now I just have to figure out why one of my sata drives is not being seen by the bios. I suspect one of the cables is not in 100% but that means taking the other side panel off as the board has SATA ports that stick out parallel to the board rather than at 90 degrees.

See you all in a few minutes after I go and kick the wires

G.
