Hello everyone, this is my first ever post so forgive me if it's in the wrong place.

I recently got a new pc:

Q9550
8800gtx dual sli
4gb DDR2
Asus P5N-D

And all was fine until i went into BIOS. I was looking around and found something called jumperfree configuration, so thought i'd look inside, turns out there was an automatic overclocking option, so i thought i'd try it out and see how.. bad it was :p, Anyway It had the choice of setting the cpu to 5% 10% 15 or 20%, so i chose 5% to start and then pressed f10 to exit and save...

Now a box appears, usual thing when you change settings and sits there.. for a whole hour, saying 'Do NOT press the rest or power button', so usualy this goes away almost instantly, it stayed for an hour mustve frozen, so i restarted my pc, and then.. no screen.. fans all turn on, leds working, but no startup screen, cant get in bios (tried holding insert, tried holding delete, nothing.

So i thought ok, a simple CMOS reset would fix things, I open the thing up, take out the mobo battery, replace it after about 10-15 mins, and pop the gpu back into place.

Plugged it all in, screen in the same gpu socket as before, but no screen still, the same situation.

I'm really quite worried, this has put me off ever overclocking anything again as the pc was over a grand.

Please any help would be good.

Francis :confused::)

Just a thought, have tried going back to basics, 1 gpu, 1 stick of ram, hd and cpu.
Do another CMOS reset, is it possible to use the jumper on the board as well as removing the battery, then have another go and see what happens, try different ram in different slots as well.

Ugh.. ok, i really didnt want to start meddling with hardware i dont quite understand :S, I'm going to phone up the people i bought it off on monday and see if they can fix it :(, but thanks the for the fast reply :)

I might try the jumper thing over the weekend, but when i had it open earlier, i couldnt see the jumper, maybe its under my second gpu?

OK, turns out the mobo was completely broken, they replaced it free in the shop, but now im really worried to attempt ocing again.

Is it safe, do you think the mobo was just faulty?

i have this mobo... its not bad to overclock on, i have a 46% overclock on air, loads of volts and everything is cool, stable and running great lol

forget that 5% 10% rubbish, theres another section in there where you can see your FSB.. unlink your ram and up the fsb. id say start at 1400fsb if default is 1333. then work from there with a stability problem like prime. you might need to raise some cpu voltage when you reach a limit so i suggest you read up about overclocking abit more. goodluck.
