Hi

Just wanted to run some cabling questions past the knowledgable people I know are on these boards. I have a cyrus amp and some kef speakers coming, just need to know how to wire them all up!

From my internet searching and staring at the back of my existing boxes this is what i've worked out:

Cyrus amp has BFA connectors so I need those to banana plugs for my speakers - amp setup.
Need phono - phono cable for the cd player - amp.
Will use a 3.5mm jack to phono for my freeview audio to the amp (sony vtx freeview box).

Does that sound ok? I kind of discounted any digital cables as there are no obvious benefits I can see. So, do I just need 3 cables??

You don't need digital cables, nothing you are using is digital

Sounds like you have it right

The only possible digital cable you "might" consider would be from your freeview box to an external DAC (if you have one). The VTX800 can also output an optical digital via the mini-jack socket.

Thanks both of you for your quick replies. I considered the digital out from the freeview but I think I need an adapter as well (mini TOS or something). Its only freeview so i'm not that bothered. Far more excited about hearing some cd's on a decent stereo for the first time :D

I demo'ed the Cyrus CD6 and some KEF Q5s and it was the nuts..

Didn't buy it though lol

Yeah no DAC so I guess its definately 3.5mm jack to phono for freeview audio.

EVH, these were some bargains on ebay. Was inspired by all the talk of buying second hand on here :)

It's good to know that people actually listen to the advice on here! What did you end up with? I bought my cyrus kit on ebay and I'm very very pleased with it still. I've had it 18 months now. I bought a 3 amp and dad3q24 cd player which cost a shade under £550.

I ended up with the Cyrus 7 amp and Kef Q35 floorstanders. I'm really enjoying the sound, the separation of each instrument really comes through on my cd's - everything sounds amazing! :D

One further question, just wondered what people's opinions were on dedicated cd players? I would consider upgrading to one in the future as i'm using my pioneer 575 at the moment. Would I notice a 'wow' kind of improvement?

I can in fact see a long road of upgrades ahead of me! :)
