I'm looking to purchase a hi fi or home cinema, but not sure what to buy. It would be hooked up to ps4 & Samsung 55 ks7000 4k TV. I was thinking about a mini hi fi with a pair of bookshelf speakers. I listen to a lot of music as well. Not too sure if I can go 5.1 as room is a bit limited.
Budget is only around £500

Any ideas would be most welcome

How do you play your music Rob ? if no record player i would go 3.1 with a av amp ( 3.1 ..three speakers and a sub) then when playing music just switch the amp to stereo

i concur 3.1 or a soundbar with wireless sub.

AVR takes up a lot of space and they aren't cheap.

depends on his budget entirely.

Thanks for the reply.
I actually listen a lot through headphones at the minute through the pc, with a headphone amp on my sound card. No record player, I use a Sony sound base just now for TV & ps4

Would you have any suggestions ? Ideally I would like something with usb. I just thought I could do away with the soundbase & pc & have an all in one unit if you know what I mean

what do you use to listen to music?

you say PC but this isn't specific enough. is it youtube? spotify? MP3's? what is your source?

with a £500 budget a decent soundbar is likely your best bet. an AVR will eat up at least £150-£200 leaving you with £300 for speakers which means it will be 2.0.

a home cinema you want at bare minimum

£200- sub
£200 - avr
£400 - speakers

that is like the absolute bare minimum unless you go second hand.

i think with your budget a decent soundbar is the only option.

unless you buy just an AVR and 2 speakers then add to it over time.

I listen to a lot of flac & mp3 that I have ripped to pc.soundcard is xonar stx.

I would be open to the avr 2.0 & adding speakers as I go

Thanks

Rob

there are some AVR's that will play flac or you could get a flac player and send the signal to an AVR or soundbar using bluetooth, etc.

you could forget an AVR and just get a decent 2.0 amp and a cheap set of speakers then upgrade to really good 2.0 speakers later on.

the choice literally is endless what you could do. music will always sound best in 2.0 movies, tv and gaming in 5.1 or atmos.

you should really go to richer sounds and check out the options and see what suits the room and you.

I know you set your budget but is that how much you want to spend on this or how much you can afford to spend now?

If it were me i'd go AVR and 2.0 for now and then look to add a sub/centre later on as funds allow.

For your budget I'd stay with stereo. You can use a stereo system for movies buy you won't get the full experience.

If you buy a avr now it won't be as good as a pure stereo amp but you have option to add speakers and sub later.
