i am thinking about either getting a new cpu or ocing the one i have

i currently have
lga775 e6300 1.8 temp under idle 31 and 45 playing f1 2010 (temps from core temp)
ram is ddr3 800mhz
board is a asus p5b
cooler is akasa x4
gfx hd4650

is it worth ocing on this rig or just get a newer cpu installed ?

Why not try and Overclock it? I wouldn't advise spending money on a new CPU as it's Socket 775 which is getting a little dated now. Perhaps if you were getting something second hand at a decent price maybe, but in the meantime just Overclock the nutts off your existing chip :)

ok thanx for the help

this would be the first time i have oced anything.

after a little read it seems i can go about it via upping the fsb

is their any benifit of messing with the other settings unless it is unstable ?

what temp should i be looking to get at idle in an ideal world ?

Idle temp is irrelevant, load temp is what you need to monitor, for a core2 duo CPU 60-65 as the upper end under 100% cpu load is the level I wouldn't go any higher than.

Check out the overclocking guides on this forum.

Best,

Mike
