Hello, im looking at making my first gaming rig on the cheap if that's possible, i only play mmos at the moment (wow, and waiting for swtor) i have about 400 to spend, i have monitor keyboard mouse and speakers. Im not really sure where to go from here. I would like to get the i5 2500k but that's probably above my price range.

Cheers :D

do you have anything else to use off a previous system, do you need an o/s ?

could swap the psu to a lepa 600w (which would take the total up to £384.90 to allow for an updated gfx card at a later date if needed)

The board does SATA3.0 and USB3.0.

GTX460

Fastest i3 CPU as you cant overclock.

Cheers for replys :) i only have a laptop at the moment :( ive heard that theres new intel and amd things coming out in nov, is this true? will this mean that these builds that you have listed will be cheaper? i really want an i5 :D on and btw im buying in dec :)

There is AMD Bulldozer hopefully this month which uses a AM3+ motherboard.

Intel have Ivybridge early next year that works on current socket 1155 boards.

intel also have a high end Sandybridge-E coming out at the end of the year which uses a new socket2011 setup.

Will a i5 2500K drop down enough to fit in your budget? I doubt it. Thats a huge price drop for what is still a fast modern chip.

Im tempted to get a better pc than i can afford, what i would like to do is build one like the one above but with an i5 but leave the graphics card out and buy a good one at a later date. Basicly so i can still use the pc for basic gaming (if the motherboard has onboard) then i might even sell my ps3 if i get into it :D then use my pc as a main gaming thingy :)

Well you can use a i5 25ooK with a Z68 chipset board so that you can still overclock, you also get display out[puts on the back of the motherboard to use the built-in GFX on the CPU core.

So you can still use the PC to play solitaire etc until you add a 3D GFX for gaming.

But December is still two months away so just wait and save more money.

Yo stu, look at my thread in the oc section please :)

Id also get a coolermaster 330 case with psu, its about £45 elsewhere and the psu lasted me for a while. Means you have £40 towards a gfx card, try scrap another £30 and get a gtx 460

I dont really want to play with clock settings or anything like that :) i just want to play a few games (mmos) also i would like to give mw3 and bf3 a go but from what a read then i would need a pc that costs loads. Can the i3 play games ok? the spec you listed above for 417?
