Hi all, first build and PC since 2004 when I built a Athlon 2800

can you give me your advice below, basically for playing Forza and F1 and PC games for the kids but also video editing, mainly 1080 / 720

Is the spec ok? Do I need 32gig Ram for editing?
Anything you would change or anything that won’t work together

Thanks in advance and appreciated

How much video editing do you do? I've been researching 16 v 32GB RAM recently, and tests showed 32GB RAM does provide a good improvement, then it's worth it if you do it enough.

What case, power supply and graphics card are you going to use? (you haven't listed any in your spec) - do you need an extra standard HDD to store video edits on or anything? Also, what's your overall budget?

That ASUS cooler is a complete waste of money too, unless you've got a fat budget and money to spare. The Samsung SSD is way over priced as well. That X570 mobo is also over priced and un-necessary.

If you could help answer the above, I'll chuck some suggestions at you. :)

EDIT: Based on your parts listed above being ~£1k, I'm assuming your budget is this if not a bit higher if you need other components?? Either way, put this together for now so you can mull it over...

3700X few more cores/threads for video editing, also helps with gaming too. 32GB RAM for the video editing and overall future proofing... 1TB M2 which is £40 cheaper than the Samsung and probably equal performance. PSU is one of the few in stock, it's a very good PSU anyway. 5600 XT is pretty much the top 1080p GPU. Mobo is a new B550 board on pre-order, stock I imagine is due to land soon...

Hi Sparx

Its a new build, was going for a B Quiet case

I was going for a Gigabyte 2070 Super
I was going 3600 DD4 as it wasn't the much more expensive

I am tryng to future proof for a couple of years, hence spending a bit more

Budget £1600 ish

Video editing, I have just got a 2 day a week contract on day rate for video editing, basically zoom conference calls in 1080, I also do a bit of gaming in spare time so like something to support that.
Zoom conferencing also only allows a 25 tile on my current mac, so wasn't to be able to get the full 7x7 grid due to mac ram and processor I beleive

I data process a lot of spreadsheets with large amount of macros tec.

Quite often I am multitasking, I have 2 1080 screens and quite often recording the zoom conferences while working on other media, at the money I have a laptop for zoom recording and a laptop I work on and want to move to one system

I have the power supply Super flower 650, I also already have a 3660X but could return it

I cant really hang on for the 550, I need to get this built this week really

Thanks for your help

The 3600X is no slouch don't get me wrong (I have one) - but personally if you want to future proof, I'd have gone for the 3700X over the 3600X if you do a lot of CPU intensive work like video editing, large Excel work etc... Your call mate :)

Either way, this is the revised basket then if you don't need a PSU just add whatever case you're after. I've swapped GPU to the 2070S which is more a 1440p card btw (also have one in my rig), so feel free to look into upgrading your monitor at some point if you like. Otherwise it's overkill for 1080p atm :D

Case is entirely your own preference. I presume you're not fussed about RGB with a BeQuiet case, so have swapped the RAM (also 3600MHz kit) to one in stock with you saying need it ordered & built ASAP. Also swapped to a good X570 mobo too in stock.

Which BeQuiet case are you going for out of interest?

Christ £250 on a full tower case?! Again seems a bit overkill imo :p The Phanteks I mentioned is a solid option and only £84 lol - again your call though :D Lots of brill case options in the <=£100 region.

I'd rather spend that money on swapping to the 3700X CPU and pocketing any change for now...

Did you need any extra storage like a mechanical HDD to store your video footage? Or do you have that covered already?
