I'm looking at getting a new lap-top with Blu-Ray built in to be able to then pipe out on HDMI to a plasma tv at 720P.

Does it have to be specced up to the hilt with CPU & RAM for it to work properly i.e. not be all jittery or does this only apply to HD movies on the HDD?

Also are Lap-top Blu-ray players 'profile' upgradeable like the PS3?

Any modern C2D based laptop should easily be capable of playing HD, even without GPU acceleration and I don't think that you need copious amounts of RAM, certainly nothing out of the ordinary.

PowerDVD or whatever equivalent that you use to actually watch the film with will almost certainly be patched to support future profiles (PowerDVD was updated to profile 1.1 a couple of weeks ago).

i've got PC with an athalon 3500+ proc.... it'll play HD content pretty fine is a bit of a strain on the proc (90%-100% usage) but it's only a 3 year old 2.2 single core...
