Any reason your not just getting 1 120gb SSD? Also if your spending that much i'd go for a vertex 3.
If your gaming youd be better off with a i5 2500k.
Also 8gb of ram is plenty for gaming
However if your encoding ect ignore the above 2 comments.

More reliability to have 2 drives ? Also read on here the agility is best bang for buck, that the quicker speeds on vertex3 mean nothing as the system bottlenecks the SSD.
Not encoding but i read that BF3 will support hyperthreading.

BF3 will support it yes, i was just thinking about keeping costs down like you said, best bang for buck.
It is more reliable yes but with an SSD you should be running a mechanical drive you back everything onto anyway so 120gb would be better than 2 smaller really. And it may bottleneck it but youll get more performance than an agility out of it.

Thoughts ?? Need to be as close to £3k as possible but dont want to skimp. Fractal Design XL tower any good ? That will bring it down...

GTX570 in SLI? that will drop the price to £3K

It would be rude to swap that awesome Lian-LI for a Fractal case.

I've changed a few things around, but kept it similar, and it leaves you 250quid under the 3k mark.

*might not be too good, but it still has the vertex3(out of stock, but to show for the price), and leaves you to get your own os/keyboard+mouse/anything else.
**the case was put as a 700d just because I like them :p, and they're quite practical :)

Ahh, never noticed the thread, thought they weren't bad. Even with the dell one tho, its still under budget :)

Thanks :)

Looking at this setup now

Is the motherboard ok to run a pair of 6970's (when unlocked) ?

I believe it will run them in x8 x8 as apposed to a UD7's x16 x16

will i see a big slowdown at that pci-e speed ?

x8/x8 crossfire will not give you any noticable slowdown compared to x16/x16.

since you seem to be happy to spend up to £3000, i thought i'd go crazy, and suggest a triple screen 3D rig.... i hope you have a big desk :D

can someone confirm some stuff for me please:
- 3GB SLI 580's, will this make a difference over 1.5GB considering the triple screen 3D setup?
(and do you need to buy an SLI cable seperatly?)
- 3 3D screens in eyefinty (or Nvidia's equivilant). i assume i just need the 1 3D vision kit, am i right?
- keyboards and mice. HELP, no idea what im after here (went with the OP's choice)

@ Reaper. Yes mate ONLY 1 kit, 2 graphics and 3 screens are need.. ONLY :P :)

In your build I would have stuck with the 2500K and got a better HDD instead of the bundled one. Nice though.
