Now, i'm new to these parts :D

Set up the mouse clicking/typing pulser, so thought might aswell pop this on. Installed the thing, I think, from the guide :)

Its sat in my tray saying "working 0/5000" so, i take it somethings working.

If i turn my pc off, does it still keep the figures its produced so far or?
Whats a WU?

Erm, think thats it. I'll just let it run for a week before i get scared of it :D

Welcome! I take it you've installed the Graphical version of Folding@Home.

A WU is a work unit. It's the scientific data your computer downloaded and is now processing.

Every 1% of the way through the WU it will save its progress. If you restart your computer it will start where it was up to the most previous 1%. If I stopped and was at 55% complete, it would pick up where it left off at 55% complete.

WU - is a work unit.

They do take sometime to complete, but it all depends on what CPU you are running them on.

It saves checkpoints every 15 minutes (by default, you can change this to anything from 3 minutes to 30??). So at the worst you will only lose 15 minutes of work. After a WU is submitted you'll get points.

If you don't want the fancy graphics of the GUI client, you can just install the console client instead. That will run in the background and you won't even know it's there. F@H works in work units (WUs) and progress is saved at set intervals, so you won't loose anything for turning your PC off.

Welcome to the team, btw! You'll never leave ... :)

Welcome. As 'nother says, the "command line" version may be more convenient as you won't know it's there.

The wu's at the moment are terrible though. They take forever and give few points. Stick with it though, get a feeling for it and then when good wus come back you'll love it :D
