MythTV media frontend
Hi guys,
Just in the mist of a server/media center setup and I'm looking for a small, silent machine as a frontend to connect to my TV. I have a backend linux server running MythTV and would like to connect to this to display the front end on my TV.
Would a mac mini be suitable for this? I'm thinking as the decoding will happen on the back-end machine (I believe this is what Myth TV does right?) then it shouldn't have a problem displaying 1080p HD stuff as it wont have any encoding/decoding to do?
EDIT: I've just read up on MythTV client/server business and im even more confused. What does the backend actually do apart from record programs using the default nuv file format? When the frontend requests a program does it get transcoded by the server to MPEG2/4 for viewing? or does the frontend have to transcode it?
Cheers
