PC will not hibernate!, bios is set correctly, WOL is dissabled, yet when I put it into hibernate mode, it goes off, i leave the room, then at some random point within the next ten minutes, it boots up again... bloody thing.

any ideas? am on win 7 if that helps...

take the power out that should stop it from booting up
if it doesent then id be afraid

standby requires power and decreases power usage but hibernate allows you to power out completely

Hibernate saves data to the hard disc so power can be removed. Sleep mode is stored in ram which requires power.

Look in the NIC properties. Even though you may have disabled wol in bios windows may still have the "allow this device to wake the computer" selected. Also the option underneath this (something like only allow workstations to wake this computer) will stop any old network traffic waking your machine, and limits it specifically to a magic packet being sent.

Hope this helps!

use 'powercfg -DEVICEQUERY wake_armed' to see what devices can wake the system.

next time the pc wakes up run 'powercfg -lastwake'
