OK, i've never really been clued up on the whole windows hibernation thing. I've recently started using a laptop, and have now found the benefits of using the hibernation feature. With hibernation available, whats the use in having the option to 'shutdown' the system? If there is a windows issue, sure, you can restarte windows, but surely hibernation is a much better option over 'shutdown' unless im missing something?

well i guess if you have finished the work you was doing, and closed down programs, you can just shutdown, as you dont need to go back to the work..

in my investigations of hibination, i found that some times, it wouldnt renew IP addresses and whatnots.. maybe in vista they have fixed that, but with XP ne way..

other than that..

Well the memory can get a bit clogged up, and rebooting can fix that.

Otherwise its a great tool that needs to better implemented in other OSs. Unfortunatly whenever I wake hibernate I am greeted with a BSoD, the MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION one... So no hibernate for me :(

So do i, but that's because i have that as a screen saver :p

Can someone please tell me, why whenever I put my pc or Laptop to hibernate, the internet connection doesnt come back up again, and I have to disable/enable wireless device

On my notebook, I always log out and then Hibernate it from there. Means that when I wake it from hibernation, I have to log in again (which takes just a few seconds), and so at least loads Windows in a semi-fresh state. Also ensures that any connections etc are renewed.

^^ will have to give that a try.
Whats is the advantage of hibernation over turning the computer off?
And I assume it uses less electricity?
Havent really used it much because of the problem I stated in my previous post

This seems a daft question :p but where is the hibernate button under Vista? I only see sleep, or is this just a laptop feature?
